Week 4 saw the team make good progress within all aspects of the project. The modelling team have now got access to PythonOCC which is a open source python wrapper for OpenCascade. PythonOCC has limited applications compared to OpenCascade however there are not relevant to this project. The modelling team have also set out the best way to parameterise the model and are now learning the commands in order to do this.

Within the meshing aspect of the project, a 3-block chtMultiRegion model was meshed using a generalised, simple mesh. Patch names were added to indicate mesh quality. In the next few weeks, the meshing team will aim to develop a more refined mesh using snappyHexMesh. The figure shows the 3-block chtMultiRegion Mesh.

The solving team made good progress completing a simulation of a 3-block chtMultiRegion model with conduction from both the top and bottom surfaces successfully managing to heat up fluid within the centre block. The figures below show this simulation in more detail.

The aim for the solving team over the next week is to develop the model further and begin analysis of a periodic simulation.

Next week the team will begin preparation of the interim report for this project which will outline the premise of this report in more detail, the methodology of the project, how we are managing the project and how we are working as a team.
