On Saturday 17th November the team went on a day trip to the city of Nuremberg, located 2 hours by train east of Stuttgart. Nuremberg is the second largest city of the German federal state of Bavaria after its capital of Munich.
Nuremberg has many attractions which the team enjoyed visiting throughout the day. First, the team visited the site of the Nazi party rally grounds and the Documentation centre. The team visited the museum learning about the history of the Nazi party and the role Nuremberg played around the time of World War II. The rally grounds were initially designed to be a location where all supporters of the party could come and listen to the leader, Hitler. The complex was never finished and only the Great Road and Zeppelin field remain in full. The Zeppelin field is where Adolf Hitler addressed up to 150,000 people at once and is left as a ruin at present.

The team also visited the Hauptmarkt, the main square in Nuremberg that holds the Nuremberg Christmas Markets. The square is dominated by the gothic Frauenkirche (Our Lady’s Church) and the Beautiful Fountain in which has a gold ring, which if turned 3 times, offers a good luck wish.

The Nuremberg Castle overlooks the city offering great views of the Nuremberg skyline. Many top attractions can be seen from this viewpoint including St. Lorenz Church and St. Sebaldus Kirche.

Before leaving Nuremberg, the team stopped in at a local Bavarian-style restaurant to try the famous Nuremberg sausages. The sausages are 7 to 9 centimetres long and weigh between 20 to 25 grams. They are pork-based and are typically seasoned with fresh marjoram which gives them their distinct flavour. They are usually presented on a pewter plate and served with either sauerkraut or potato salad.

Nuremberg is a great city to visit and experience a little bit of traditional German culture. The team would highly recommend a visit to Nuremberg.
