On Sunday 4th November the team took a trip to the town of Ludwigsburg, located 12 kilometres north of Stuttgart (about 15 minutes by train). Ludwigsburg is a peaceful, quiet town with a large square in the centre of the town with many bars, restaurants and shops. Cobbled streets lead off the main square towards the main attraction, Ludwigsburg Palace.

Ludwigsburg Palace is a 452-room palace complex of 18 buildings. With the gardens, its total area is 79 acres which is the largest palatial estate in Germany. The palace has 4 wings with the Alter Hauptbau being the oldest and was used as a ducal residence.

The palace is surrounded by the Blooming Baroque gardens which includes fountains, a garden maze and water rides. While the team were at the palace, there was the Lugwigsburg Pumpkin Festival which showed a wide variety of pumpkin types in all shapes and sizes. The largest pumpkin on show at the time was 420kg.

Entry fees to the gardens and grounds are reasonably priced and very fair as there are lots of activities on offer and makes for a very good day out.
