On Sunday 30th September we went to the Stuttgart Beer Festival also known as Cannstatter Volksfest. The festival is lasts for three weeks and is held in the district of Bad Cannstatt near the River Neckar. It is the second largest beer festival in Germany with the largest being Munich’s Oktoberfest.

The festival has many attractions on show including numerous amusement rides. A 60 metre Ferris wheel, water rides and rollercoasters are all part of the festival. 73 stands hosting carnival games and 95 food stands are also within the Cannstatter Wasen complex. The main attraction, however, are the beer tents. There are seven large tents hosting up to 5,200 people each.

The event gave a good insight into the German culture and the festival experience in Germany. Classic German food and the traditional Lederhosen were all on show.
