On Saturday 29th September, the team visited the Porsche Museum at Porsche Platz, Stuttgart. The museum displayed more than 80 vehicles showing the history, design and engineering development of the car manufacturer. The team were able to see special edition and world-famous cars including the 356, 911 and 917 as Porsche celebrated 70 years of production.
The museum detailed the technical achievements of the Porsche family from the early 20th century to the present day. The museum also described the innovative engineering designs created by Porsche including the infamous 911 body shape with rear-mounted six-cylinder boxer engine. The team were able to learn from videos and interactive exhibits on the mechanical engineering advances that Porsche made as their cars were developed throughout the 20th century.
The museum included a 12-metre-long “touch wall” that included drawings, pictures and technical data showing some of the earliest work by Professor Ferdinand Porsche. The continuous development was clear to see from the interactive exhibit.
At the end of the museum, the newest car to the Porsche collection was on show. The Porsche Mission E is an all-electric 4-door coupe and is Porsche’s first all-electric car. Its streamline body and exquisite shape was great to see close-up.
The day at the Porsche Museum was informative and incredibly interesting and certainly widened the team’s knowledge on the design and production of Porsche cars. The museum always changes the exhibits depending on specific topics it may wish to promote and so the Porsche museum would be well worth a return visit whenever we are back in Stuttgart.
